Multiple Protocol Layer Switching (MPLS)

Trumpet Networks' intelligent MPLS VPN solutions provide secure, reliable and cost-effective WAN transport at T1 to OCx speeds. MPLS is ideal for connecting multiple company or agency locations, whether across town or around the world. MPLS is preferred by an increasing number of users because, among other reasons, MPLS:

  • Permits QoS/CoS and priority queuing for VoIP, video, CRM, ERP, and a
variety of other latency-sensitive or bandwidth-intensive traffic to run more
    effectively

  • Utilizes intelligent, meshed network technology that permits Tier 1 SLAs for
    performance and availability

  • Is widely available in the Mid-Band Ethernet ranges (to 45 Mbps), reaching     an estimated 95% of U.S. businesses with twenty or more employees

  • Permits a highly scalable range of managed services, reducing customer
network management costs and facilitating SaaS

  • Is often highly cost-effective when compared to point-to-point circuits.

Trumpet utilizes only top-tier Internet providers, such as AT&T, Verizon Business/MCI, Qwest, XO Communications, Global Crossing, Level 3, and Sprint, to provide MPLS solutions.

Trumpet also designs and installs custom microwave networks and utilizes the existing networks of leading microwave carriers to provide secure, reliable microwave connectivity, which can function much like a Metro Ethernet MPLS solution.

By selecting the least-cost fiber and microwave options from among a wide range of quality carriers, Trumpet's MPLS customers benefit from competition between carriers and technologies. This permits Trumpet to provide superior quality and value in head-to-head competition with other providers.

Trusted Adviser

Trumpet's broad range of solutions, including MPLS, coupled with its technology-neutral stance, permits Trumpet to focus on providing the best overall value for its customers, rather than pushing a particular carrier network or transport technology. This allows Trumpet to be a trusted advisor to its customers, developing long-term business relationships by providing superior value and service.

Monitoring

In addition to the carriers' network monitoring, Trumpet provides 24x7 LAN/WAN device health and performance monitoring and reporting.

About MPLS

MPLS, or Multiprotocol Label Switching, appends a 20-bit labels to network layer packets as they enter the carrier network. These MPLS labels steer traffic onto a variety of routes to avoid congestion or failures, or to enable QoS/CoS. The labels are removed when the packet reaches its destination, and the process is unnoticeable to Trumpet's customers. MPLS is usable with any network layer protocol and any infrastructure.

MPLS labels replace traditional IP packet forwarding address matching. The labels are perhaps most commonly used to uniquely identify each packet's VPN. Packets are forwarded along a Label Switched Path where each Label Switch Router, or “LSR,” makes forwarding decisions based solely on the contents of the label. The LSR strips off the existing label at each hop and applies a new label that tells the next LSR how to forward the packet. In the end, MPLS delivers IP traffic quickly and securely and permits applications to run faster than a VPN over the Internet.

MPLS's wide range of features, global reach and highly competitive price when compared to point-to-point carrier network connections has made it a increasingly common choice among businesses and government agencies. Contact Trumpet to learn whether MPLS is right for you.
